Mennonites have long held an infatuation with land - both its ownership and its cultivation. With that in mind, we'd been wondering if Mennonites were expressing any concern about one of the major topics in the news these days - Climate Change.
We found a Mennonite-related web site with an interesting name - the Center for Sustainable Climate Solutions (CSCS) - in Harrisonburg, Virginia. We reached out to see what they had going.
They were about to sponsor a coast to coast bicycle ride designed to bring Mennonite and non-Mennonite youth together for two months of bicycling to educate and raise awareness of climate issues.
That was enough to peak our interest. Sounded just like what we were looking for - an opportunity to talk with people engaged with climate issues and a chance to gather some great video to boot.
Mary and I packed up our gear - the first time since the pandemic shut us down - and headed out. We caught up with the group in Indiana Dunes, Indiana where we interviewed participants and captured video of the ride.
Turns out at least a few Mennonites are thinking about creation care.
